Since October 2020 Fraunhofer IDMT is an Associated Member of the world's leading professional association for the preservation and exploitation of broadcasting archives.
For Fraunhofer IDMT, the associated membership is an important step to learn more about the needs of broadcasting archives and to align research and development to these needs.
FIAT/IFTA is a worldwide association of institutions, commercial companies, and individuals managing or with a special interest in audiovisual archives in general and television archives in particular.
The association has more than 250 members, many of them commercial and public broadcasters, as well as national audiovisual archives. At international conferences, in seminars, in workshops, and in specialist working groups, members exchange knowledge and experiences on the topics of archiving and indexing as well as the management and exploitation of content in broadcasting archives.
FIAT/IFTA`s main objective is to provide a forum for the exchange of knowledge and to connect the various members, but also to disseminate current (technological) knowledge in the field of broadcast archiving and to represent the interests of media archives on an international level.
Patrick Aichroth, Head of Media Distribution and Security at Fraunhofer IDMT has presented several technical topics at various FIAT/IFTA events:
- In May 2019, he presented the topic “Audio Forensics and Partial Matching” (https://youtu.be/HRo-HUqPyPM) and showcased how audio analysis techniques can be used to detect suspicious locations within (potentially manipulated) speech material and to track and identify audio-reuse and repetitions within broadcast streams.
- At the FIAT/IFTA conference in October 2019, he explained why systematic evaluation and decentralization are important aspects for trusted AI, and how they can be applied: https://de.slideshare.net/fiatifta/aichroth-systemaic-evaluation-and-decentralisation-for-a-bit-more-trusted-ai
