Fraunhofer Institute for Digital Media Technology IDMTIn cooperation with the Dutch institute Nederlands Vaccin Instituut (NVI), a system for cough recognition for rats has been developed. The reason for this research were pharmacologic studies with rats that were carried out at NVI to test the effectiveness of drugs with rats, e.g. for influenza medications. Comparing the number of coughs in a group that was given the drug with a control group delivered information about the way the drug works.
Responsibilities of Fraunhofer IDMT
Based on available technologies, the Oldenburg Branch for Hearing, Speech and Audio Technology HSA optimized their detection systems to the required precision for this special application. Using the developed procedures, several hundred hours of audio material were automatically analyzed for the customer.
