"Emused" is a mobile application for learning how to improvise with a musical instrument and extend one’s musical skills. All the user needs is basic musical knowledge, an instrument, and a tablet or smartphone. With the help of a number of playful exercises, the user learns to develop their own melodies and improvisations. Over the built-in microphone, Emused recognizes the notes the user is playing and gives immediate feedback regarding the user’s performance. Emused is based on Fraunhofer IDMT’s knowledge about automatic analysis of music. In the course of the »Software Campus« project, this knowledge has been combined with an innovative gamification concept to create a platform independent mobile application.
